Griffin’s April 2005 fight with Stephan Bonnar at UNLV’s Cox Pavilion became one of the defining broadcasts in the UFC’s development. He won the inaugural Ultimate Fighter light-heavyweight final and later captured the UFC light-heavyweight championship.
His Vegas connection continued beyond competition through UFC athlete-development and community work. The regional Hall of Fame describes support for organizations including Three Square and Boys Town of Nevada. The former Georgia deputy’s career illustrates several parts of the local MMA economy: athlete, television figure and organizer working with fighters after their competitive careers.
