Augmon played at UNLV from 1987 through 1991, contributing to the national championship and consecutive Final Four appearances in 1990 and 1991. He won the NABC Defensive Player of the Year award three times, giving the celebrated Rebels a defensive identity alongside their offensive firepower.
Atlanta selected him ninth in the 1991 NBA draft. After a fifteen-year NBA playing career, he moved into coaching and returned to UNLV as an assistant in 2011. His No. 32 was retired by the university. The return to the coaching staff made his local story span two generations of Runnin’ Rebels.
