Cunningham’s UNLV career combined quarterback play with accomplished punting. His ability to threaten defenses as both a passer and runner carried into the NFL after Philadelphia drafted him in 1985. He later led Minnesota’s offense during its outstanding 1998 season.
His relationship with Las Vegas outlasted those playing years. The regional Hall of Fame records his return to UNLV to complete a degree and his founding of Remnant Ministries in Las Vegas in 2004. He belongs here through college achievement and continuing local involvement, not because the Eagles or Vikings played their home games in the Valley.
