Marty Cordova

The 1995 American League Rookie of the Year came through Gorman.

THE VEGAS CONNECTION

Las Vegas native and Bishop Gorman graduate.

Cordova was a Las Vegas baseball prospect before he became a Minnesota Twins outfielder. A Bishop Gorman graduate, he briefly attended UNLV and then Orange Coast Community College. Minnesota drafted him in 1989, and his progress through the minors included an injury-delayed arrival in the majors.

His 1995 debut season produced 24 home runs and the American League Rookie of the Year award. He followed with 111 runs batted in in 1996 and later played for Toronto, Cleveland and Baltimore. After baseball, he returned to Las Vegas and became involved in business, including digital-media company Bent Pixels. His story spans local player development, a national playing career and a return to the Valley’s economy.
