Kris Bryant

Bryant was born in Las Vegas on January 4, 1992, and played at Bonanza High School. The University of San Diego’s college biography records an exceptional senior season: a .489 batting average, 22 home runs and 51 runs batted in, together with Nevada player-of-the-year recognition.

Although Toronto drafted him out of high school in 2010, Bryant attended San Diego. The Cubs then selected him in the first round of the 2013 draft. His development was also a family enterprise: his father, Mike, had been drafted by Boston and worked with Kris on his hitting from childhood. That combination of a Las Vegas public school, family instruction and college baseball gives his profile a specific local foundation.
