Maddux’s Las Vegas connection begins with Valley High School. He graduated in 1984 before building a major-league career associated especially with the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. Four consecutive Cy Young Awards, from 1992 through 1995, mark the peak of a career built around command, movement and changing a hitter’s expectations.
He reached 300 wins in 2004 and entered the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014. The family connection matters locally: his brother Mike also pitched in the majors and became a prominent pitching coach. Their careers belong in the city’s baseball story alongside the Stars, 51s and Aviators, because Las Vegas developed major-league players long before it pursued an MLB franchise.
