Engelland’s Vegas history began before the NHL arrived. He played for the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers, then worked through the minors to reach Pittsburgh and Calgary. The Golden Knights selected him in the 2017 expansion draft, bringing a familiar local connection into a new franchise.
His address to the T-Mobile Arena crowd before the first home game, following the October 1 tragedy, made that connection visible. He was part of the inaugural team’s run to the Stanley Cup Final and won the NHL’s Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2018. The regional Hall of Fame also documents his subsequent charitable and organizational work in Las Vegas.
