Fields began racing at seven after his mother saw a flyer for BMX at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway property. The Green Valley High graduate progressed through national age-group competition and turned professional in 2011.
After placing seventh at London 2012, he won Olympic gold in Rio in 2016. A crash ended his Tokyo semifinal, and he retired from competitive cycling in 2022. The UNLV graduate subsequently turned toward coaching, speaking and charitable work. His route from a local track to the Olympics makes the Valley’s participation infrastructure a central part of the story.
