Agassi carried Las Vegas onto tennis courts around the world. He turned professional at sixteen, won eight Grand Slam singles championships and completed the career set of all four majors. His Olympic singles gold and participation on winning United States Davis Cup teams added international team achievements to an unusually visible individual career.
His local significance extends beyond tennis. He established the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education in 1994; Agassi Prep opened in West Las Vegas in 2001. Youth tennis, the Boys & Girls Club and education became continuing parts of his hometown work. The Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame biography connects those projects to the years after his 2006 retirement.
